Sticks 'n' Sushi

"What did Maki say to Nigiri?" "Wassap - b?"

There's a new Sushi joint in town and I'm excited to tell you about it. Let's Roll!! *see what i did there?*
Sticks n Sushi opened up in Wimbledon (and down the road from my humble abode) about a year and a half ago, but it's taken for it's younger fresher sibling to open up in Soho for me to pay it some serious attention.

With many an established restaurant all over Denmark, Wimbledon was their first overseas venture. The Scandinavian cross Japanese take on interior design makes for a cool yet intimate atmosphere.

After a heavy week at work I was ready for a stiff drink to blow the cobwebs away before making space for some delicious grub! A welcoming face greeted us at the door and showed us to our table.

First up were these refreshing delights!

A Hotaru cocktail for the lady (Rum with passion fruit and apple)

And a beer for Steady Eddie.

Beautifully lime marinated Yellow tail ceviche with tomatoes, red onion, cucumber, coriander and citrus pearls to awaken the taste buds.

Followed by crunchy little Ebi Bites: Shrimp tempura soaked in lime and coriander, and topped with miso aioli - Yum!

Magoru Tataki : Seared tuna with cress, chili, chives, ginger, daikon and a goma-ponzu dressing! Don't ask...just know it was scrummy!

The Bling Bling Roll: Crayfish, scallop, avocado, cucumber, wasabi, tobiko, miso aioli, chives, trout roe, unagi sauce & lime.

Next we moved on to some sticks. This one was a juicy piece of beef steak soaked in herb butter. Simple but sensational.

Miso marinaded black cod. Oh Sheez...that was good!

Having conquered half of the menu, a breather and another cocktail was in order.

This time, a Wild Berry Club (Gin, citrus and wild blueberry jam)

We ummed and argh-ed whether to order more and concluded that we could squeeze in another stick or two.

Stick 1: Chicken breast topped with chili dip, teriyaki and spring onion
Stick 2: Chicken meatball in teriyaki

Oh yes and these little bursts of deliciousness that I like to call 'The bomb diggies'

Hotate Kataifi Bites: Scallops in kataifi with miso aioli, trout roe and cress.

It was the start to the weekend after all!

I went for a little stroll around the restaurant to digest all that wonderful fresh food, while my hunky date deliberated over pudding.

These guys also sell various little nic nacs and all the fabulous sauces and dips we enjoyed throughout the evening.

The lights dimmed and as I approached our table, I was greeted by a big pot of steaming jasmine tea and a selection of desserts!

Clever Boy!

Matcha green tea ice cream with dark chocolate (Interesting but certainly not for the faint hearted)

White chocolate ball with sweet miso and popped rice.

Vanilla crème brulee

And finally, the Big Daddy of the four musketeers

Chocolate Fondant with caramel and hazelnut brittle!

Just look at the gooeyness!

You can only imagine the noises that came from our table!

And in a flash, it was scraped within an inch of it's life. Gone.

Vanished.

I didn't expect a Japanese restaurant to come up with such exquisite puds but I gotta hand it to them, they nailed it.

A wonderful evening filled with unbeatable service, fresh and beautifully put together food and fabulous company.

What more could a gal want?
